Paintings by Bruno Schwebel

Join us at the Institute on Monday, March 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. for the reception for Bruno Schwebel's new art show, share some wine and goodies, and see a selection of his breath-taking paintings. Or come by later in the week to greet Bruno, who will be on hand to answer your questions from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday (March 2-4).

Many students of the Institute know Bruno and his work. His autobigraphy, As Luck Would Have It - My Exile in France and Mexico, tells the compelling story of his family's escape from Vienna in 1938 when he was ten years old, and their temporary refuge from Nazi persecution in Paris. After various sojourns in France, they fled to Lisbon, then to Casablanca, and eventually reached Mexico City in 1942.

A man of many talents, Bruno worked as electrical engineer, cameraman, advancing to the position of technical director of Mexico's largest TV network. He also became an actor, folk musician, painter and chess champion. An inveterate traveler and hiker, he explored his new home country on many trips. His paintings explore his observations and reactions to the natural world he has loved in Mexico, the Caribbean, and the United States, particularly California.

You can view a selection of his paintings on his website: brunoschwebel.net

We hope you can join us!
